The Belgian Beer Cafe Bluestone, smack in the middle of St Kilda Road, is one of the city's most iconic beer hall-style bars. Combining a traditional beir cafe with a massive outdoor beer garden, this bar gets a thumping from locals, tourists and everything in between nearly every day of the week. Naturally, weekends, or pretty much any time the weather is fine, see the place packed to its European-inspired gills with small to large groups, all eager for an expensive beer and an alfresco bratwurst. It truly is a festival experience - pricey beer and food - wrapped in the convenience of a city centric location.
A nice alternative to an Irish or English pub (if you can find an authentic one), the Belgian Beer Cafe combines a traditional European restaurant, serving every Euro treat you could want (escargot, terrine, mussel pots, spatchcock and much more), with its beer-hall style beer. That's right, each beer is poured into its very own dedicated glass, with excess foam removed and then dipped clean in water to provide the perfect, albeit expensive, beer every time.
Meanwhile, out in the beer garden you can partake in the Euro BBQ, with grilled and rotisserie offerings alongside salads and small snacks. It gets pretty packed on weekends, so get in early if you want to grab a table or some shade under a tree. And if you drop by on a Sunday, you can catch some live jazz, blues or funk acts to go with your Stella or Hoegaarden. Skool!
