Melbourne legends The Smith Street Band and Bodyjar are joining forces for a massive night at The Croxton on Saturday September 10.
The Smith Street Band recently released ‘I Don’t Wanna Do Nothing Forever’ and ‘Everyone Is Lying To You For Money’ – the first two singles from their soon-to-be-announced sixth album.
While there’s still the undercurrent of their rollicking, anthemic singalong and toe-tapping-laden sound, this is The Smithies at their most creative yet, blending their finely honed pub rock sound with samples and robot voices all wrapped around lead singer Wil Wagner’s frustrated and vulnerable lyrics: “I’m sure if you spoke to the different guys in the band, everyone would probably describe the songs in a different way,” guitarist Lee Hartney told us recently. “But for me, this album has gone way simpler. In a lot of ways, it’s gone way back to the sound of our first or second album.”

Meanwhile, in February this year, Bodyjar released New Rituals – their first album in nearly 10 years. It became their fifth album to reach the ARIA album charts, alongside classics How It Works and Plastic Skies.
Somehow both bands haven’t played together since Big Day Out 2013, so don’t miss the chance to see two of Melbourne’s all-time greats of punk rock on the one lineup.
