My Leonard Cohen

myleonardcohen.jpg

Leonard Cohen is a poets poet, a musicians musician and a ladies’ man. His voice low and sultry fills your room through the speakers with a smoky veil of romance and lust. There are not many music lovers that don’t lay claim to at least one of his songs as part of their own personal soundtrack. Cohen’s lyrics fill you up and comfort you like a warm cup of tea or a trusted lover on a rainy day. What man wouldn’t want to be him? D’Arrietta is no exception. He talks about Leonard Cohen and the influence his poetry and songs have made on some of the chapters of his own life. Speaking comically of his three marriages and three subsequent divorces, Stewart clearly identifies with Cohen.

D’Arrietta is a mesmerizing storyteller who weaves the incredible works of song and his life saga with a combination of poetry and Stewarts own extraordinary musical gift. He is supported by a nine-piece band of incredibly talented multi instrumentalists in Prahan’s exquisite Chapel off Chapel. With the talented and infamous Rex Goh directing the show, the fabulously handsome and immensely talented young Ben Edgar playing harp, banjo and guitar, sage Nick Lyons on cello and sitar and a disgustingly talented cohort of musicians in full swing this show is bound to impress it’s arty music loving Melbourne audiences. Chapel off Chapel proves itself as one of the better arts venues in Melbourne with a sophisticated yet friendly vibe.

The audience literally gushed as D’Arrietta launched into the classic I’m Your Man, and continued swooning for all of the classics including Tower Of Song, and Everybody Knows. My Leonard Cohen is a show for both newcomers as well as golden Leonard lovers and is both intimate as well as big entertainment.
