The Melbourne-based music marketing and PR company Hunger Digital is expanding into the events space with two showcases in March.

It should go without saying, but no one understands the needs of artists better than artists themselves. When Laura Semple founded Hunger Digital, she wanted to make a space in the industry for musicians and performers that didn’t quite fit into the same mould as everybody else.

“We’re an artist-centric agency with many of the Hunger Digital team being artists and DJs ourselves, it was important for me to create an agency that prioritises the creatives we work for,” she says.

Today, the company has announced two showcase events to help launch the new booking agency arm of the business. On March 10, they’ll be taking over the Curtin Hotel to show off their full range of live musicians, and on March 23, they will highlight their DJs with a party at the Toff.

Both shows will also feature cocktails by Baby Pink Gin, as well as temporary tattoos designed by Vein Boy.

The current Hunger Digital roster is focused on Melbourne-based experimental pop and electronic live acts including Adam Noviello, Dirty Versachi, DOGi KATZ, LOUV, Max Lawrence, Mo•Louie, Romaeo, Tess Hannah and DJs Genki Tanaka, Patrick Henning, Priya, Rakhi, Sickpig and Tiny Text. Though they’ve already got a solid crew, they are just getting started, with plans to expand Australia-wide in the coming year.

Laura has picked up skills from all sides of the music industry throughout her long and varied career, giving her the kind of experience that’s hard to match.

A classically-trained pianist from age six, she went on to study audio engineering at post-secondary. Since then, she’s worked in music retail, publicity, media, events and everything in between – she even teaches courses in entertainment marketing and social media at universities in Melbourne.

“Through working with many artists over the years,” Laura says, “I could see the need for a booking agency that not only puts artists first but also works with artists and DJs that are a bit left of centre. At Hunger Digital we pride ourselves in giving space to these artists that combine the worlds of music, theatre and multidisciplinary art – bringing you into their world by way of their stage performance and digital presence.”
