Seri Vida
An only child, a Cancer, a sometimes moody, otherwise confessional SERI VIDA has been throwing tantrums on stages across Melbourne since fronting THE PANG in 2009. VIDA has since moved on to more personal projects, dissecting her musical persona to discover a sound uniquely her own.
The edgy songstress began writing music in the confines of her bedroom, from plunking notes on the old ebony and ivory to strumming the sturdy strings of an electric guitar to accompany her vocal prowess. The Brunswick-born artist has always liked listening to angry music, and though her debut LP To Be Free reflects a darker side of the mid-90s inspired rock sound from which she emerged a musician, VIDA’S music is more seductive than it is angry - although it is
aggressively poetic and brutally honest at the most opportune moments.
Any given weekend, fans will find VIDA gigging in and around the city with the zeal of an addict hooked on the drug that is performing to a live audience. SERI VIDA is the type to lose herself in front of the microphone, kick and scream a bit before realising she’s taken out the new bass player.
VIDA performed at the 2010 Fringe Festival and Emerging Writer’s Festival, and has since teamed up with the likes of drummer Alan Murphy (Dear Stalker), guitarist Andrew Watson (The Single Men’s Drinking Club) and bassist Chris Mildren (The Interim Lovers) by means of mutual musical connections and serendipity. The result is an aural force to be reckoned with - powerful, seductive and honest. SERI VIDA is a rare glimpse into the new soul of rock & roll
