Pear And The Awkward Orchestra
People of the world, meet Smocks!, the highly anticipated debut album release from Brisbane's folk-pop darlings, Pear And The Awkward Orchestra. The album moves between sweet, luscious alt-folk in let's hide and it's dark all the way through to first single and pop anthem Oh Katrina and a slight punk/indie pop vibe with second single Bigger Than You. Quirky, emotive and surprising, this album was a year in the making and marks this Aussie songstress's move to the international stage.
Sweet juicy and unique, Pear And The Awkward Orchestra are a quirky, memorable musical offering; whimsical folk-pop from a mini-orchestra of diverse instrumentation and sparse arrangements supporting an emotive and powerful voice and gritty, personal songs.
Their EPs Russian Doll (2007), and EP Something Will Come (2009) have enjoyed critical acclaim and regular airplay and orchestrated the grassroots rise of this unique band. Single Oh Katrina released February 2011 has received high triple j and community radio airplay and engendered the winsome Pear to a whole new swathe of fans. Film clips for Oh Katrina and second single Bigger Than You will be released June 19 with an album launch tour kicking off July 9 and taking in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne with further details to be released.
