Helm
HELM have been tirelessly writing, producing and performing together since 2008. That same year, they emerged on the live scene, armed with their first independent release, Vol 1...ʻKeelhaulʼ. It was warmly embraced by fans and critics alike, receiving rave reviews from various national and international press, as well as countless online blogs and forums.
Their long awaited sophomore effort, Vol 2...ʻThe Winter Marchʼ, repeated the success of their debut and firmly cemented HELM in the National Rock scene. Upon reviewing their live performance of this album, RAVE magazine said...”An intelligent and heavy OZ rock band whose hype is justified...”
In early 2010, HELM received both permission and blessing from Iva Davies and his management to cover and release Icehouseʼs iconic song, Great Southern Land. This was released in August 2010 with MGM signing on to distribute the EP nationally.
As well as this amazing support for the five Aussie louts, in September 2010, Fender Australia offered the boys an endorsement and signed them, adding to HELMʼs arsenal. Orange Amps UK also endorsed the boys, helping to alleviate a lot of their tour pressures. Happy boys.
On the back of this continued, yet humbling success, MGM re released their first two offerings, Vol 1...ʻKeelhaulʼ & Vol 2...ʻThe Winter Marchʼ, in November 2010.
HELM have been included in ZOO Weekly on three occasions (receiving 4.5 star reviews for both releases), Australian Surfing Life (who included Watch It Burn and Her Broken Vow on two separate DVDʼs), have been featured guests in UK magazine, Terrorizor and have received National Airplay on Triple J, Triple M and community radio stations.
2011 has seen HELM snare support tours with SHIHAD, The Butterfly Effect, Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus & Grinspoon, after being picked up & signed by national booking agency, The Pushworth Group. Very recently, Lucius Borich from COG & Floating Me stepped into the studio to record with them, the results to be unveiled early 2012.
After clocking up approximately 100 shows in just under 3 years, & achieving the success they have in such a short time, itʼs safe to say that HELM display all the necessary traits to make a memorable dent in our global music scene. In the tradition of progressive Australian bands such as COG, Karnivool & Dead Letter Circus right back to acts like Midnight Oil, INXS & Icehouse, HELM have that special something that makes them uniquely Australian & 100% musically addictive.
