WU LYF : Dirt

Manchester quartet WU LYF (World Unite/Lucifer Youth Foundation) made their Australian debut at Vivid Festival in Sydney last week. NME has already declared them ‘fucking amazing’ so while Sydney reviewers said their live set was not quite fucking amazing, there’s still a great steaming steam train of hype trundling ahead of these guys and it’s hard to listen without prejudice, if you know what I mean. Tentatively, I’m going to go with NME on this one (God help me). The sheer bombastic balls of this ‘heavy pop’ single, the feral appropriation of Arcade Fire’s baroque pop loveliness, has made mince meat of my heart.
