Triennial EXTRA: The NGV reveals 10-day festival of music, art and food

Featuring some of Australia's favourite musicians.

In light of their forthcoming Triennial, the NGV has revealed Triennial EXTRA - bringing together dance, performance, guest DJs, pop-up bars and conversations in a one-off experience.

Some of Australia's finest musicians will be taking up DJ residencies throughout the festival performing in the NGV Garden for an open-air summer session. Expect DJ sets from indie rockers Jungle Giants, Saskwatch, singer-songwriter Dan Sultan, Cloud Control, Tex Perkins, husband and wife duo Dave Graney and Clare Moore, and electropop act Miami Horror.

As for the food, Supernormal Natsu has crafted a new and exclusive menu for NGV diners inspired by the Japanese summer.

With a Japanese grill taking centre stage of the restaurant's terrace, expect a melange of grilled meat and seafood complemented with fresh summer ingredients. Of course, speciality vegetable dishes will be on offer too.

A free program of art, performance, music, design and ideas will also take over the NGV, with highlights including Shakespearean excerpts performed by the lauded Bell Shakespeare troupe within the new large-scale sculptural work Mass by Ron Mueck.

Audiences can also take tours by leading scientists and technologists, writers and campaigners, including award-winning science journalist Tanya Ha and African artist collective Still Nomads who will explore themes and contexts central to the NGV Triennial including identity, technology, race and the environment.

The NGV will also feature a dance take over from the team at Chunky Move, introducing five new performance works that take audiences on a unique journey across the Triennial through dance.

Occurring once every three years, the NGV Triennial features more than 60 of the world's finest artists in an unprecedented and large-scale exhibition of international art, design and architecture.

NGV Triennial EXTRA runs from January 19, 2018 - January 28, 2018, open from 6pm through to midnight. The NGV Triennial runs from December 15, 2017 - April 15, 2018. For more details, head to their website
