Suldusk

Who are we chatting to? My name is Emily Highfield and I’m a vocalist/guitarist in acoustic duo Suldusk. We play neo folk blackgaze with some doom influences.

What do you reckon people will say you sound like? We’ve had comparisons to Opeth, Chelsea Wolfe and Marissa Nadler.  I’m influenced by Agalloch and elements of atmospheric black metal. I’m also a big fan of the uplifting melancholy of Alcest and the European doom of Trees of Eternity.

What do you love about making music? I began uploading stuff on Soundcloud for my own therapy and enjoyment and started getting some real love back from musicians and music lovers around the world. The goodwill was a real impetus towards refining what I was doing and now I love the connections and collaborations happening online and in real life. I recently collaborated with a black metal artist from the US called Skyggefigurrer and we released a song called Drogue which got over 4,000 plays on Soundcloud in a week.  These sort of things are quite validating as the style of music is quite niche.

What can a punter expect from your live show? Waves of pure acoustic sounds, combining metal, folk and dreamy shoegaze.

What’ve you got to sell CD-wise? At this stage we are in pre-production for a full-length album with two very skilled producers – Mark Kelson and Jesse Oberin. Both guys will bring their individual strengths to the sounds.
