Q&A: Sweet Jean

So then, what's the band name and what do you 'do' in the band?

We're called Sweet Jean and we both sing and write the songs. We also play guitar, banjo, autoharp, piano, harmonica, and tambourine. Sports - not so much.

Bearing the terrible clichéd nature of this question, what do you reckon people will say you sound like?

Often people say that we sound like we're brother and sister. This could be because of the banjo playing, or the harmony singing. Either way, we're really hoping that we're not related. That would be awkward.

What do you love about making music?

The riches, the friends, the gigs, the recording, the songwriting, and the happy accidents.

What do you hate about the music industry?

Jay Z won't return our emails.

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?

We probably wouldn't presume to show them our own stuff, but if we had the chance we'd love to go back to Dock Boggs, Karen Dalton, Dusty Springfield, or Louis Armstrong and say "thanks".

If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it and why?

For a pretty entertaining character assassination of Kenny G, go to Pat Metheney's website. Kenny G should really travel back in time to Louis Armstrong and say "sorry".

What can a punter expect from your live show?

We'll be playing songs from our upcoming album as a duo and with a great live band.

What've you got to sell CD-wise?

Our debut single Shiver & Shake!

When's the gig and with who?

We're launching our debut single Shiver & Shake at the Toff in Town on Sunday December 4. Our mate John Castle who produced the single will be hitting things, and we've also invited the Heel Toe Express to kick things off. We'll be screening our new video for Shiver & Shake, and Lance Ferguson of The Bamboos will play a '60s exotica DJ set after the gig.

Anything else to add?

Sime is threatening to dance.
