Pnau : Changa

You’d better crack out the Banana Boat, because Pnau’s sixth effort Changa is hot. Hitting right in time for the summer festival season, this is an album that will be on rotation in your collection for quite a while.

Opening with Save Disco, the bass line that drives the electronic rhythm of this song sounds massive – like the ghost of Prince was involved in its creation.

You might think that creating wall to wall bangers is a little cliché, yet on Changa, PNAU brings a bright shimmer across all 12 tracks to create one of the best dance records of 2017. From the festival singalongs ‘Chameleon’and ‘Go Bang’, to other earworms ‘In My Head’and ‘In the Sky’, Changa is full of soul and sounds like a sweaty night on a dancefloor in the Bahamas. Vera Blue guests on ‘Young Melody’, kicking up the party to another gear and sounds a little like The Chemical Brothers in the pulsating beat and rhythms of the last four tracks.

If you’re heading along to Beyond The Valley over New Years, get there for Pnau’s set because Changa will no doubt hit another level in the live format.
