Phoenix Public House To Close

Another bitter demise in the contemporary Melbourne live music venue saga, the Phoenix Public House is set to close its doors next month.

Whilst only a recent fixture to the local scene, the Sydney Rd venue held host to some of the finest local, national and international acts to grace Melbourne the past year, and joins the ill-fated likes of The Buffalo Club, Miss Libertine and East Brunswick Club, all closing within the past six months.

The Phoenix Public House will close it's short but magnificent run on Tuesday June 12. Stay tuned to Beat for more details.

This sucks. Yet to see a band there, will head along to Opossum and PVT for sure. The place had decent grub too.

From their Facebook:
"taking on the terms of the lease would have meant making huge sacrifices to the concept and integrity of what we wanted to create in order to make rent... and the length of the lease left no room to implement ideas and continuously improve the business. It would have been a business with no love. Attempts to secure a longer lease were met with conditions that made the business unviable for a live music space."
