What’s the band name and what do you do in the band? The band’s called Meruka (Ma-rooka). I’m Matt, I play guitar and sing and I’m Dan, I play guitar and backup vocals.
What do you reckon people will say you sound like? A lot of our songs are pretty different from each other, but some of our major influences include Hockey Dad, Two Door Cinema Club and a smidge of Northeast Party House.
What do you love about making music? Building a song with mates and seeing people singing along at shows and having a boog is awesome. Also beers with the boys are pretty good too.
What do you hate about the music industry? The rider’s never big enough.
If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be? I want to say Freddie Mercury but he would probably say it’s rubbish.
If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it be? Freddie Mercury because he said my stuff was rubbish.
What can a punter expect from your live show? Positive, energetic summery vibes and good times all round.
What’ve you got to sell CD-wise? Nothing yet but stay tuned, we have a single and an EP coming soon.
Anything else to add? A pinch of salt can really bring your meal together.

Meruka will take over The Workers Club on Saturday October 7 with Teenage Dads, The Flock and King Groaker.
