Listen: Paul McCartney's long-lost 1965 Christmas mixtape

Only three of four copies were ever made, gifted to his Beatles bandmates.

More than 50 years ago, Paul McCartney crafted a Christmas mixtape for his bandmates. Fast forward to today, and the memerising mix of classic songs, avant-garde experiments, tape loops and original compositions has been unearthed - just in time for you to palm off to your own bandmates as an easy-as-fuck Christmas gift.

What's more, McCartney takes the reins as DJ throughout the mix, commentating throughout the mix that features cuts from The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, Elvis and more.

Rolling Stone cites McCartney himself offering some information on the collection, first explained to historian Mark Lewisohn in 1995.

“It was called Unforgettable and it started with Nat ‘King’ Cole singing ‘Unforgettable'. Then I came in over the top as the announcer: ‘Yes, unforgettable, that’s what you are! And today in Unforgettable …’ It was like a magazine program: full of weird interviews, experimental music, tape loops, some tracks I knew the others hadn’t heard. It was just a compilation of odd things.”
