The Libertines announce first ever Australian shows

The English rockers return to the stage.

Born in an East London squat in the '90s before being escalated to international stardom, The Libertines -- comprised of notorious duo Pete Doherty and Carl Barat -- quickly garnered a reputation as the epitome of hedonistic indie rock.

Following in the footsteps of infamous English artists like The Clash, Madness and The Jam, The Libertines' debut album Up The Bracket was hailed as an instant classic.

From there, the band set off on a well-worn tale of drugs, heartbreak and success, spiralling out of control before reforming in 2010 with their third record, Anthems for Doomed Youth in 2015.

The band are in the country as part of the inaugural Sydney City Limits festival, featuring a stellar lineup of Justice, Beck, Vance Joy, Phoenix, Tash Sultana, Grace Jones, Gang of Youths, Dune Rats, The Libertines, The Avalanches, Allday, and more.

Luckily for us, the festival has announced further sideshows including Car Seat Headrest, Sigrid and The Head and The Heart.

They'll hit The Forum on Wednesday February 28 and the Tivoli, Brisbane on Thursday March 1. Tickets via Secret Sounds
