Kendrick Lamar makes history and wins Pulitzer Prize

The first non-classical or jazz artist to win the hallowed award.

Kendrick Lamar has made an unprecedented win by taking home the historic Pulitzer Prize for music, marking the first time a non-classical or jazz artist has done so.

Lamar is also the most commercially successful artist to ever receive the award, winning the Pulitzer for his acclaimed album DAMN., described by the Pulitzer board as "a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life."

Lamar now joins the ranks of fellow luminaries including Bob Dylan, Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, and John Coltrane.

Kendrick Lamar headlines a massive Splendour in the Grass lineup this year featuring Lorde, Vampire Weekend and more.
