Industry: inquiry into Aus creative content, new signings everywhere, and Aus Music T-Shirt Day is coming

Given that many commercial radio stations don’t play the required 25% quota of local music, the Greens have launched an inquiry into the value of Australian creative content. The Economic and Cultural Value of Australian Content on Broadcast, Radio and Streaming Services study will highlight the value of local content requirements in the arts, due by May 2018. “This inquiry will focus on the value that Australian television and music contributes to our society, through economic benefits, export potential and community building,” said Greens communication and arts spokesperson Senator Sarah Hanson-Young.
 
Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile’s Lotta Sea Lice album, recorded in Melbourne in eight days, spread over 15 months, has become the first chart success for both artists since 2015. This week it debuted on the ARIA chart at #5 and is set to enter the UK charts in the top ten.

Guns N’Roses’ Not In This Lifetime tour has now grossed US$400 million since its launch in April 2016, a 19-date European run added an extra $112 million. The tour ends in LA on Wednesday November 29.
 
British band Idles’ new vinyl record includes the ashes of the singer’s mother limited edition £100 (A$168.60). The album Brutalism from March featured mumsie on the cover.

Later in the day, Fraudband celebrate their return from Japan with a mini-festival Fraudulent Times with five bands and 2 solo acts including Matty Whittle of GOD playing tunes from across his career.

Friday November 17 sees Unearthed, The Push and Parliament of Victoria presented a free, all ages concert held on Parliament Steps from 5-9pm with Skegss, Tired Lion, Mallrat, Baker Boy and surprise guests.
