Hip Hop: Lil Wayne is on his way, Ms Lauryn Hill joins Bluesfest, and new music from Ezra Allen

US rapper Lil Wayne is set to headline brand new Aussie music event Jumanji. The froggy-voiced emcee will join the likes of US producers Metro Boomin and DJ Mustard and rapper Ace Hood for the two-day event, with more acts to be announced. Weezy has become a household name and it’s been a long time since he performed on Australian shores. He recently dropped a song called ‘Big Bad Wolf’, from his upcoming mixtape Dedication 6 Reloaded, a follow-up to his latest release Dedication 6.  Jumanji Festival will take place at the Melbourne Showgrounds on Friday March 9. Neo-soul legend Ms Lauryn Hill returns to Australia to perform at Bryon Bay Bluesfest. The R&B icon will be bringing her soulful sound Down Under to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her landmark solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. She’ll join the likes of Lionel Richie, Kesha, Tash Sultan, Rag’n’Bone Man, and Seal. It’s going down from Thursday March 29 to Monday April 2.
 
Australian music prodigy Genesis Owusu made waves in 2017 with his EP Cardrive. The Canberra rapper has recently released his single ‘Sideways’, produced by Hiatus Kayoteand his unique style of hip hop took the world by storm. Making his mark on the local music scene, Genesis Owusu will be heading on an east coast tour, with a free event held in Melbourne. He’ll join local artists Juñor, Kwasi x HFNR, Z. Lewis and DAWS when he takes to the stage at The Penny Black on Friday February 16.  
 
Melding jazz with hip hop, Ezra Allen has an addictively smooth sound and he’s ready to take on 2018 with full force.  To celebrate the release of his newest single ‘Grow Up’, the charismatic lyricist will perform at the Workers Club next month. Supported by Fresh Violet, Krown and Mt Pl3asant, he’ll jump onstage alongside Thom Swain and Yan Dromart from The Outside Inn. UK rapper-producer BigSmokin’Joe is heading back to Australia for a third time to perform a string of shows around the country following the release of his latest track ‘Single Minded’.
