Electronic: what's the go?

DJ Seinfeld, Moby, Otologic and Tornado Wallace: this week's roundup.

Swedish lo-fi house and breaks whiz-kid DJ Seinfeld, has been announced as the 64th artist to be selected to do a DJ-Kicks mixtape for the long running German label !K7. Curiously, a number of Melbourne artists are on board - András, Fantastic Man, Sleep D, Rudolf C, Shedbug, Hymns and Roza Terenzi have all contributed tracks (a bunch of them exclusively) for the mix. That’s a third of the entire mixtape devoted to Melbournians. A pretty nice acknowledgement that we really do have a world class scene with a unique sound I reckon. The mix will also feature tracks from DJ Seinfeld himself, FaltyDL, Mor Elian, Project Pablo and a handful more. Release date is set at July 13.

Moby’s been at it again in the last week, selling off his record collection to raise funds for charity. This comes after he sold 100 pieces of music gear from his studio for charity earlier this year. People are starting to freak out, thinking he must be terminally ill. Personally, I think it’s much more likely that ‘ol Moby, with his extensive history of animal rights and charity work, just wanted to get rid of a heap of records that were cluttering up the place. At the time of writing there are two records left: a $1200 Minor Threat seven inch and some Chinese opera - $65 and it’s yours.

Back in Melbourne town, it’s a C Grade reunion this Friday with Otologic and Tornado Wallace back in the country. The beloved ensemble of selectors that were responsible for some of Melbourne’s most legendary nights in the Mercat Basement will be taking over a different den of debauchery - Hugs&Kisses, for a night they’re calling Famiglia Feeling: Third Time Lucky. Tornado Wallace journeyed back from Europe this past weekend for Dark Mofo in Tassie, closing out Red Bull Music’s party night with Jagwar Ma and No Zu. Kicks off at 10pm, I’d be expecting this to be a busy night so get down there early-ish to avoid missing out.
