OK. Ok. Listen. I love Nirvana as much as the next Gen Y dipshit. I do. In fact, I can genuinely say they played a role in transforming my taste in music. My brother grew so tired in my horrific penchant for Top 30 Ace Of Base ‘90s techno trash that he literally locked me in his room one day and force fed me Soundgarden, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins and – of course- Nirvana.

I’ll always remember the subsequent slow, yet organic transformation of my taste and I’ll always remember how badass Kurt’s vocals were. He really had the disaffected, badass lyrics down pat. He genuinely sounded grossly depressed and it was excrutatingly cool. So anyway, YES, I GET THE NIRVANA THING. But this ruckus about the 20th Anniversary of Nevermind and the, exhausting extravaganza that’s been delving deep into the history of the album and it’s importan-OH FUCK OFF. Rolling Stone dedicated half an issue to celebrating the album this month and the copy is littered with quotes like, “One day we were this unknown band, the next everyone was telling us we’re the best band in world”. The dudes seemed and STILL seem genuinely exhausted and mortified about these labels, and rightly so.  To pin that kind of gratuitous label on any one act is totally morbid but damn we love it. Not only does it seem a tad dramatic, it also seems to continually counteract the band’s intention. Kurt was so deeply disturbed by his own perceived importance that it appeared to contribute to his downfall and Grohl and Novoselic often flat out refuse to discuss the band, so this big fucking parade we’re throwing at the moment seems to be totally for our own satisfaction. It’s sentimentality gone completely fucking mad and I’m not on board. No ONE band is the “best band in the world”. No ONE bad will ever BE the “best band in the world”. Except Ace Of Base. That shit was next level.

Amity Affliction appeared to have scored the deal of a lifetime after it was revealed that they’ve been signed to Roadrunner Records worldwide. “Every since I can remember in Amity we’ve been dreaming big: big tours, big shows, big crowds…signing to Roadrunner worldwide is almost beyond a dream come true” said Joel Birch in a statement.  The band also announced supports for their upcoming headlining tour with Asking Alexandria and Skyway. Melbourne’s October 11 show sees Hopeless supporting while, October 12 boasts Feed Her To The Sharks and October 13 supports are I Explode Like.

Sludgy Sydney quartet Lo! have announce a string of tour dates in support of their upcoming album Look and Behold. The album hits stores on October 14 and the band will arrive in Melbourne the next day (October 15) to play The Gasometer with Night Hag, Bowcaster and Risk and Reason.

Lagwagon are attempting to combat their impending irrelevance by reissuing their first five 90s era albums. Duh, Trashed, Hoss, Double Plaidinum and Let’s Talk About Feelings will all be rereleased, with each album will be remastered and will feature most tracks, demos, outtakes, Bsides etc.

Soundwave’s Counter Revolution, after months of speculation and controversy, rolls into Melbourne this week. If you were as bummed as we were about having to spent mad cash on seeing Make Do And Mend make their Melbourne debut, then you’ll be pleased to know that Fist 2 Face in Ringwood are hosting an acoustic performance this Thursday. Cavalcade will be down there to support, but you’ll need to burn off on your work commitments. This all starts at 4.30pm.
