Core

Winter gives me the absolute shits. It makes everyone and everything at least 60% more miserable. But this year I've found a few things that are making the season a little more bearable.

1) Smith Street's Gasometer hotel is now fully functional and hosting bands. It also has buffalo wings on it's menu, open fire places everywhere and they play a lot of Wu Tang. HOME.

2) Make Do And Mend's End Measured Mile. Quite possibly the album of the year so far and almost and angry and bitter as I am when the heater conks out.

3) Louie CK, the most bitter yet immediately loveable comedian the world has ever seen is performing in Melbourne this September. I am restrained and affable in comparison to this ginger, and I love him endlessly for that.

Speaking of angry gingers, Frank Carter, the most hardcore red nut out, has announced he is parting ways with UK band Gallows. He recently explained, "We have hit a crossroads in our wtiting process and unfortunately myself and the rest of the boys have different ideas regarding the sound of Gallows going forward". He continued, "This does not mean I am giving up on music. I have a new band called Pure Love which I have been working on with my brother Jim Carrol (Suicide File, Clouds, Hope Conspiracy) for a few months now." You'd expect the rest of Gallows would be pretty devastated about continuing sans their talented vocalist but guitarist Laurent Barnard has said, "We won't be letting anyone down when we drop the next record….Death Is Birth. Your ears have been warned".

Nate Young of Anberlin and Tim McTague of Underoath have joined forces to form a new band, the unfortunatelynamed Carrollhood. The band are planning to release an EP later this year with bandmate Reed Murray of Marksmen.

Their first track is available for download now.

In what is hopefully the first of many Soundwave sideshows to be announced, Alice Cooper has revealed that he will play at The Palais Theatre in St Kilda on Thursday September 29. Tickets go on sale this Thursday.

Everyone's got their knickers in a tizz about a Foo Fighters headlining tour, details of which were leaked late last week. The Fooeys return to our shores with Jack Black and Kyle Gass' famous duo Tenacious D this December. Fans better be prepared to pay some big bucks for tickets though. They play at Melbourne's AAMI Stadium (that shiny lookin' cocoon on Swan St) on Friday December 2. Tickets are on sale to general public on Monday July 18.

Recent Rise Records signing Dream On Dreamer have announced a headlining tour of Australia before they take off overseas to tour with some Rise label mates. The Heartbound Tour hits Melbourne's Evelyn Hotel on Friday August 26.

As reported last week, Frenzal Rhomb have confirmed a headlining tour with US band Teenage Bottlerocket. The tour will kick off mere weeks after the release of their new album, Smoko At The Pet Food Factory, which hits shelves on Friday August 19. Frenzal will play at The Corner Hotel on Saturday September 3 and The National Hotel in Geelong on Tuesday September 6.

Blue Murder have announced the support bands for the upcoming No Use For A Name tour. Our Corner Hotel show will seeThe Gun Runners and Backyard Surgeons take the stage, and the National Hotel gig has supports from The Gun Runners and Perfect Fit. Tickets are on sale now.

Handsome Tours have announced a September tour from …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead. The band released new album Tao Of The Deadearly this year and will give it a right plugging when they play at Melbourne's Corner Hotel on Wednesday September 7.
