Who are we chatting to? Hey, I’m Alex and I sing and play guitar in Brisbane rock trio Columbus.
What do you reckon people will say you sound like? We often get compared with lots of ‘90s punk and rock bands, sometimes like a youthfulOffspring or Weezer.
What do you loveabout making music? Whenyou sit down with an acoustic guitar and write a song, a new unique piece of art that noone else has ever created before, that’s a pretty good feeling. But nothing beatswrapping up the last day in the studio and listening to your newlycompleted album.
What do you hateabout the music industry? One thing I dislike at times is the lack of diversity. This not onlyincludes lack of diversity of different genders, sexes and races, but also diversitysurrounding different genres of music. Music is for everyone, regardless of whether youlook a certain way.
If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be? It would be a dream to get some songwriting opinions from Neil Finn. He’s such aphenomenal songwriter, with a wonderful ear for melody and an unpredictable use ofchords.
What can a punter expect from your live show? We’ll be busting out the acoustic guitar and playing a few songs from our new acousticEP Next to Me, plus a bunch of tunes from the album and a few oldies.
Any parting words? Remember to callyour Mum and tell her you love her.

Columbus will launch Next To Me at Workers Club on Saturday May 20 with Dear Seattle.
