Baker Boy drops new single, 'Black Magic'

The politically-charged track comes just in time for Baker Boy's SITG performance.

Inspired by sports heroes who have stood up against racism in the past, Baker Boy's new single 'Black Magic' is instantly anthemic, the empowering track born through Baker Boy's admiration for AFL legend Nicky Winmar who stood up against the crowd's racial abuse in 1993's St Kilda V Collingwood game.

The track sees Baker Boy collaborating with Dallas Woods, who lends lines based on everything from The Stolen Generation and Kevin Rudd's apology to influential Indigenous figures like Cathy Freeman. The release comes ahead of Baker Boy's first international festival appearance at Norway's Riddu Riddu and his Australian Splendour In The Grass performance later this month.

The politically-charged number packs a punch, though it is swathed in positivity and offers a feel-good message of empowerment overall, with chorus lines like "young, black and gifted, talking the whole package" leading the track. Check out 'Black Magic' below:

'Black Magic' is out now. Catch Baker Boy at Splendour In The Grass at North Byron Parklands on Thursday July 19.
