The White Stripes Call It Quits

You may have been wondering why you hadn't heard from The White Stripes as a duo for a while - a bunch of solo work from Jack but nothing else - and it turns out that it's because they have officially broken up.
 
Their website displays a message telling their loyal fans that the band are no longer together as of February 2.
 
"The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health. It is for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve What is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way," it says.
 
With a touching little quote from the guys themselves encouraging fans to feel like they have been 'given' the band - that The White Stripes is the property of the people now - the site still links to the official White Stripes website.
 
The White Stripes formed in 1997. Jack White formed the band with his ex-wife, Meg. They made it big in 2002 and have produced six studio albums.
