Fly My Pretties

Yes! And what’s the go then?

Fly My Pretties is a rotating collective of kiwi musicians, mixing well-known and loved performers with exciting new talent. We meet, exchange ideas, perform and record the results in front of a live audience. We’ve release three platinum-selling live albums.

Why should people be interested in what you’re doing?

Fly My Pretties is a unique experience – with a diverse range of musicians forming the collective, the sound is eclectic and appeals to an equally diverse audience – and has included members of New Zealand’s most respected bands including Fat Freddy’s Drop, The Black Seeds, Kora, Trinity Roots, The Phoenix Foundation and Flying Nun greats The Hasselhoff Experiment.

If one was to ignore their ears, what will the event smell, feel, look and taste like?

On this tour, Fly My Pretties are teaming up with kiwi visual artist, Hayley King whose visual interpretations of each song will be uniquely brought to life both during the performance, and as an exhibition. Visually stunning with musicians donning striking costumes and top VJs using lighting and projection techniques, Fly My Pretties is a sensory overload! On a metaphorical level, Fly My Pretties evokes the haunting, darkness of New Zealand’s native forest, the sweet scents of nearby kowhai and manuka trees, comforting rays of sunlight brushing across your cheeks and a soft, cool breeze gently ruffling your hear.

What sort of tunes influenced you into putting together the event?

Because of the diverse line-up of musicians, Fly My Pretties sound encapsulates everything from roots, folk and soul to rock, jazz and dub.

Do you believe music can make a difference in the world?

Music can definitely make a difference in the world! On this tour, Fly My Pretties team up with Heart Strings who have created seven guitars crafted from the timber of historic Christchurch buildings devastated by the recent earthquakes. They’ll be auctioning the guitars off to raise money for Christchurch’s struggling music and arts community but Fly My Pretties will be adopting “The Epicentre Guitar” and incorporating the guitar into the upcoming tour by playing it onstage.

You got us. When?

Playing on Saturday November 5 at the Athenaeum Theatre in Melbourne.
