Devon Sproule: I Love You, Go Easy

In The Silt, Sproule has found a backing band that matches her traditional Americana with a quirky twist by delivering music that does just the same. The best moments on I Love You, Go Easy, however, are when the backdrop is fairly minimal, thus centering Sproule’s beautiful vocals into the limelight. For a glimpse at the singer in her best, purest form, you don’t need to look no further than the very start of the album, with the uplifting opener If I Can Do This and the confessional title track. Elsewhere on the album, there are a couple of well-judged covers – the way Mary Margaret O’Hara’s Body’s In Trouble is sequenced after the neurotic, coming-of-age tale The Faulty Body is a particularly nice touch.

This is the sort of album where you can just lie back and let the undulating vocals and poetic lyrics flow over you like a breeze. Sproule doesn’t require you to do any heavy thinking – she’s already taken care of that for you.
