Whoever said nothing good can come of alcohol was wrong. Notoriously known for naming themselves after a Cure song, the LA party scene band, Funeral Party was formed late one night during a parking lot drinking session in California. Rising out of the East LA party scene with their dirty bass guitars, shuffling percussion and party rock guitar riffs, Funeral Party quickly went on to acquire a cult following.
The band’s debut album, Golden Age of Knowhere, produced by Lars Stalfors (the man behind Matt & Kim and The Mars Volta) and mixed by Dave Sardy (Oasis, Band of Horses and LCD Soundsystem) was released in Australia in January this year. It has been describe as an absolute firebomb collection of dance punk and is powered by the sweaty bravado of lead singer, Chad Elliot.
For a band who initially had to borrow equipment from the bands they played with in the backyards and warehouses of Los Angeles, Funeral Party are proving to be an explosive success. The band has so far earned themselves a spot on NME’s 50 Best Bands of 2010 and were also added to BBC Radio Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record in the World playlist. The band’s tour throughout Australia promises to take things up a notch.
