School Of Seven Bells

After bringing the ruckus last time they were here for Splendour In The Grass, New York’s experimental dream pop group School of Seven Bells are coming back to Australia for The Hi-Fi Shoreline Series. Bringing with them flatknacker tunes from their third full-length, Ghostory, and one less member, the new lineup emanates an evolved sound and Ghostory might just be the band’s career defining release. Get ready to be fondled – School of Seven Bells play The Hi-Fi on Thursday June 21, and we have double passes to give away, just tell us your best ghostory.

I am generally not a superstitious person, but one small incident suggested to me that perhaps there is some connection between the dead and those of us still here. One morning I woke up, very suddenly, at 9.30 on the dot. I felt slightly uneasy, and strangely alert. A few minutes later, my dad came into my room to tell me my great-aunt had just passed away. It was like I had been woken on the exact moment she had passed on. Creepy, yet strangely comforting.

We were on a family holiday in Tasmania and my brother, then aged 6, went into the toilets with my dad. They went into cubicles next to each other and as little kids do my brother looked under the cubicle and waved at my dad. when he came out he asked dad 'who was that nice man in the cubicle with you? he waved at me' and dad looked confused and told him there was no one in the cubicle with him. My brother kept on asking, describing his outfit as white with black arrows, and that he was a very nice man....to this day my brother, now 23, is sure that he saw a convict in the toilet cubicle. a friendly convict who waved at him.

Okay, so - My grandad, claimed to be a bit of a psychic kind of guy. How true this was - I'm not so sure - He died when i was quite young. However, before he died.. he told my older brother, that he would be there when my bro turned 21. YEARS later, My brother turns 21 and comes over to the family home to visit on the day. We all sit around watching Dogma (as you do) and in the part where the angels start dropping people from the sky - the glass hedgehog ornament that was sitting on top of our TV.. drops from the roof (?!?!?) and onto my brothers head (he was laying in front of the TV). How the ornament was on/near the roof - we dont know. CANNOT explain, even years later. The 5 people in the room saw it, though we were kind of speechless for a while. Then flipped out and started carrying on etc. Needless to say i've never seen the end of Dogma and i dont think i will.

When i was 7 my grandpa died and when we were at the cemetery i wandered off because i was sad and when i got tired and sat down I was right next to the grave of my cousin who had died when she was a baby before i was born and i didn't even know had existed until then. pretty sure there's 1000's of people buried in that cemetery pretty creepy coincidence.

i used to work on a ship... apparently it was haunted by a crew member who passed away... i didnt really believe this until working in the theatre to all hours and wierd things would happen... like gusts of wind coming through the wings and onto the stage... doors slamming... music turning on by itself... scary stuff
