Mikelangelo & The Tin Star
Mikelangelo And The Tin Star play their last headline show this Friday July 20 at The Regal Ballroom before returning to the studio to record their sophomore album. There’ll be a stellar cast joining them onstage including St Clare, The ReChords, Miles Brown (Night Terrors), Jack Howard (Hunters & Collectors) and JP Shilo (Adalita, Rowland S Howard, Hungry Ghosts). We have double passes up for grabs. So tell us about the last Mikelangelo gig you were at and how absolutely insanely off-the-planetly awesome it was. And if you haven't made it to a gig yet, lie.

I used to play with Mikelangelo at a tiny cafe near Piedmonties supermarket in Fitzroy....back in 1998!! - he was solo, doing alot of Tom Waits, and even back then he had a gentleman's style...but less hair wax....so best gig was the one on 3rd September 1998 when we had a crowd of 8 people...wow, it was rocking then...
Last Thursday my housemate and I saw the great quiffed one play at the Standard Hotel. Barely anyone was there, making it incredibly intimate. It was almost as if Mikelangelo was serenading just us. A ridiculously tasty rendition of Like A Prayer left us like giddy little schoolgirls. Afterwards hanging by the bar and having Mikelangelo offer to play us Action acoustic was enough to take this gig beyond insanely off-the-planetly awesome levels. Actually, the two Scottish women frothing at the lips over the Balkan heartthrob's sheer presence was enough entertainment alone.
My first Tin Star gig was at The Basement Discs, I just randomly popped in, and was surprising blown away by this awesome music, and such a charismatic front man! Weeks went by as I struggled to remember the name of that incredible band I saw so I could see them again... Mikelangelo and the... ummm.. what was their name again??? Oh yeah! Well NOW I remember! So now I am completely ready for a full evening of awesome music and entertainment - this time at a real venue as opposed to a shop!
