Melbourne Filmoteca

For over ten years, Melbourne Filmoteca has dedicated itself to showing local audiences the culture of faraway Latin America; a chance to bridge the gap between that continent and local audiences. Bar El Chino is a film, which does just that, by taking a cultural icon and making it relatable to Melbourne life.
Director Daniel Burak focuses on El Chino, a near-mythical bar in Buenos Aires which is considered the birthplace of the ever-popular tango. More than just a film, it is a loving tribute to a place which has remained unchanged over time, a vital part of the community which has been on the verge of disappearing more than once. We've got a double pass to El Chino, screening at ACMI on Sept the 4th at 7:30pm. Just tell us your favourite Melbourne Bar!
