Israeli Film Festival

Australia Israel Cultural Exchange and Palace Cinemas present the Israeli Film Festival 2012. For its ninth year, the festival will spread its wings even further than before, screening more films over more days with an expanded program of some of the best Israeli films from the last twelve months. It’s a perfect opportunity to escape the bombardment of Hollywood fodder and be immersed in real stories, “diverse, complex, inspirational, and turbulent.” Thanks to Palace Cinemas and Australia Israel Cultural Exchange we have a couple of double passes to give away. For your chance to go tell us the last movie you saw that escaped from 'Hollywood fodder'.

The Japanese sci-fi film 'Casshern'. One moment you're watching cartoon-style fight scenes and the next you're crying over genocide or pondering the meaning of life. Brilliant stuff.

'Children of Heaven' (1997) is a brilliant Iranian family-drama film I recently came across with a mildly simplistic, yet magical plot. The triumph of the film is that it lacks the cynicism and attitudes that accompany many American examples of entertainment for kids, and it glows with a kind of good-hearted purity. A great watch!

Shadow dancer was brilliant. Unrelentingly dark and original. One of my favourites from MIFF so far.
