Icons

The Australian Ballet is getting ready to celebrate its origins with a season of pivotal ballets from its formative years. Icons will showcase a triple bill of works commissioned over three decades: Robert Helpmann's The Display, Glen Tetley's Gemini and Graeme Murphy's Beyond Twelve. Each of these works marked a turning point in The Australian Ballet's history, and they're now getting ready to be rediscovered by new audiences in the same light as the company celebrates its 50th anniversary season. Icons will head to the State Theatre from Thursday August 30 – Saturday September 8 for a11 performances and we have a few double passes to giveaway. Tell us your favourite dance style and why it's your favourite for your chance to win.

Does chair dancing count...maybe with a bit of toe tapping? It's the only type of dancing I'm remotely good at :(

At the moment.... Lap dancing is my favourite. I'd love to change my persuasion to a more cultural style of dance and that's where you come in... May i have a double pass, please?

My favourite is Merce Cunningham's contemporary ballet. He was in Melbourne just before his death a few years ago - the performances were electrifying - a great privilege to see an icon of modern dance. Cliff, Melbourne.

My favorites contempary. I love the mixture of styles combined into one. Complete exploration of the human body and it's capabilities.

Anything that gets up close and personal... except when I have to dance with my aunt at weddings.

The washing machine; it is a style of dancing my partner employs to seductively get up close and personal with me. Think 90's box techno dance crossed with a washing machine on spin cycle of vodka & cider. Lacks the class and power of ballet but it is all we can afford.

I love ballet because it is a graceful artform. I believe ballet dancing requires great skill from a dancer and extreme physical exertion during the performance! I love it!

Musical Theatre - The dancing plus the singing and acting is all so overwhelming. Such talent. Hopefully I'll be on Broadway one day joining in!
