Splendour 2012 Rumour Roundup
Of course, we already have confirmation of Zulu Winter. We can rule out Stone Roses, though they would be a good fit for Splendour's Anglo-tinged tastes.
As for other acts, Django Django have pretty much confirmed they will be heading our way. But keep in mind, Cornershop did the same thing last year and failed to surface on the lineup.
Ol' mate Jack White is long overdue for a festival appearance, and his solo-mode set at SXSW sounds like it is more than worthy of a headline slot.
Former Beat cover star James Mercer looks like he's all set to bring his reassembled Shins to Australia for Splendour.
Azealia Banks has tweeted that she will be in Australia in July, which unless she's fucking with us, pretty much means a Splendour appearance is on the cards.
Though she cancelled her tour at the start of the year, a festival appearance from Lana Del Rey looks more than a little bit likely.
Speaking of which, could Axl Rose bring over Guns N Roses? Most likely not. Also, the thought of Axl with Lana makes me a little bit sick to be honest.
Vintage acts always go down a treat. Currently recreating Graceland in full, we'd love to see Paul Simon on the bill. Other vintage acts that could rock the bay include Neil Young, and George Clinton.
At The Drive-In would make a perfect fit headlining a night at Byron, don't you reckon?
Holy shit imagine if Outkast got back together for Splendour! It's a one in a million chance, but we're telling you there's a chance.
With his live show debuting recently, shit-hot producer The Weeknd could make his Australian debut in style at Byron this year. Maybe even a headline slot from Weeknd proponent Drake? Man, that would be awesome.
With the aforementioned Jacky White looking likely, we think one of his Third Man associates could make the trip over. Insane Clown Posse? John C Reilly? Who knows!
Flight Of The Conchords have announced a July tour, could they stick around until the end of the month?
What would make the 2012 Splendour both RARE and HISTORICAL would be the Australian debut of Young Basedgod Lil B. Thank you based god.
M Ward has just released a new record, and would be a lovely way to spend an afternoon in Byron.
Dirty Projectors are hitting the road again, and we'd be more than happy to see them slot on the Splendour lineup.
The Jezabels performed to a packed tent at last year's festival, and there's always the chance organisers will make it up to them with a primetime main stage slot this year.
The Ting Tings and Sleigh Bells look set to make the trip over. This is bad news for me because I think they are both really terrible but their fans should be happy!
As for the locals, The Temper Trap would make a perfect fit for Splendour. Ladyhawke (yeah we know, she's not exactly a local, but we'll claim her) has an album due out later this year, and would rule in the either the big top or dance tent. Donny Benet is a superstar in the making, and with the finishing touches being put on his second LP, we'd love to see him bring the heat to Byron. Twerps are well past due for their large-scale festival debut too.
Stay tuned for official announcements! Splendour In The Grass 2012 will be held at Belongil Fields, Byron Bay from Friday July 27 until Sunday July 29.
