Dark Mofo rebuke political threat against their festival

Dark Mofo is a festival that has happened in Hobart every year since 2013. The programs celebrate music, performance, screenings and art alongside the exploration of ancient ritual and ceremony.

Lately, the festival has been copping a lot of flak from political leaders and religious groups. In retaliation, Dark Mofo’s Facebook page is sharing these articles and taking the piss out of them in the most entertaining way possible.

The Mayor of Hobart, Ron Christie has sparked debate on the funding of the festival, claiming it doesn’t bring anything to the table for Tasmanian tourism. In response to this article shared on the festival’s Facebook page, an overwhelming amount festival attendees beg to differ in posting their comments and testimonies.

The festival has also seen a new campaign by the Australian Christian Lobby, urging people to email their MP to stop the festival’s funding. This outrage has been sparked by the twenty metre high upside-down crosses at the Hobart waterfront the festival displayed earlier this year. Amusingly, Dark Mofo responded to this once again on their Facebook page, saying, “Hey, that’s our cross” followed by an ever appropriate hand-horn emoji.

Dark Mofo will be returning in June 2019.
