Darebin Music Feast reveals their sprawling 2017 lineup

The annual Darebin Music Feast has returned for 2017, bringing together a slew of events to explore and enjoy.

The heartbeat of this year’s Festival is the centerpiece event Mana, the result of Darebin Councils’ AMPLIFY mentoring program that invites early-career female, trans or gender non-conforming music event producers who live, work or study in the city of Darebin to enjoy a leg up in the competitive music industry. The result is an event celebrating queerness and people of colour under the curation of Daisy Catterall and Bexx D.

Opening the program is Indigenous Australian band Coloured Stone, along with special guests including Shane Howard, Kutcha Edwards, Bart Willoughby and Yung Warriors – undertaking a musical journey spanning 40 years. The afterparty features an all-female lineup of young Indigenous musicians including DJ KYAANZ (Willow Beats) and DJ Soju Gang.

Elsewhere in the program, The Megaphone Project will see 25 red megaphones collecting and returning voices that are transmitted sporadically via a wireless network. The installation will appear at five different locations throughout the Feast.

The Darebin Music Feast Songwriters’ Award Grand Final returns for another year, showcasing the finest songwriters within the area. Darebil Live will offer 11 days of live music covering everything from folk, hip hop, jazz and classical, while Reservoir Stomp will close the event out — turning a Bowls Club into a suburban throwdown loaded with acts including The Fauves alongside a Murray Wiggle & Wally Meanie double-act.
