Well, it’s a lady by the name of Janine Rostron. Not that songs like I am your Man make it any easier to guess. Check out the videos, she’s an installation artist as well. She sure does like to ‘mess around with her voice’ as she notes. So much so, you’ll get a different performer on each track. Sitting somewhere between gothic chamber rock and ambient pop, Planningtorock’s debut is indeed melancholy and moody.
She may have first grabbed your attention in her collaboration with the Knife and Mount Sims in their opera about Charles Darwin. The Breaks is reminiscent of some early, gritty Kate Bush, while Living it Out takes on more of a dance edge. There’s no doubt about it, every track paints an entirely different picture to meld into a veritable mural of versatility.
