Mickey Avalon Still Wants To Jane Fonda

By Mikolai on Wednesday the 10th of February 2010

Mickey Avalon might rap, but he's not exactly hip hop. Not in any traditional sense. The reformed junkie and gigolo first came to international attention in 2006 with Jane Fonda. That song was a college radio hit in the US and received plenty of attention from Triple J locally. It was followed up with My Dick - a track you may remember from Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.

Both songs were featured on Avalon's self-titled debut album. He described the LP as "a glam rap record about Hollywood's seedy underbelly and the ugliness of my own life." Avalon certainly knows a thing or two about the seedier side of life. Growing up surrounded by drugs, he followed suit and much of his teenage years and 20s saw him living on the streets, abusing substances and working as a prostitute. He eventually met up with ex-MTV VJ Dirt Nasty and the paired formed a little hip hop/rock/glam collective known as Dyslexic Speedreaders.

Several years later, Avalon has had his music featured on several high profile shows, appeared on an episode of The Simple Life and is part of some alternative LA nightlife that normal people don't know anything about. In other words, his live shows promise to be 'a bit special'.

Mickey Avalon plays The Espy on Sat March 13.
