Dro Carey's First Melbourne Shows
We love our Australian-based producers here at Beat, and Sydneysider and bass music purveyor Dro Carey is no exception.
The 19 year old is certainly someone to keep your eye on – with an impressive six releases to his name this year alone on seriously hot labels including Templar Sound, the Trilogy Tapes and Hum and Buzz, it’s a shame his live performances have, to date, remained a mystery to Australian punters. No longer – he’ll be embarking on a national tour come early January, giving us a preview of what’s to come for this incredibly talented young thing. He’ll be accompanied by his own spectacular visual show, a taste of which you can get by checking out his beautifully oblique, inspired Tumblr page.
We’re keen – Dro Carey plays the Gasometer Hotel on Friday January 6.

Oh man...cannot wait for this! BIG Whose Line Is It Anyway? fan.
Pretty sure you're thinking of Dru Hill there Nick.
"It is with deep regret and sadness that we have to inform you that the Dro Carey tour has to be cancelled. Most of you know about his publicised battle with depression and unfortunately after the first Adelaide show last night the illness got the better of him and he had to cancel his main show that night. Right up until the show he was very much looking forward to the tour and performing for all his fans that wanted to see him. Unfortunately, like with many things in life these incidents cant be predicted. He tried his very best to push on (even making it to Melbourne airport today) however his condition had infact worsened so we had to no other option other than to pull the plug on the tour and inform his family of his current state.
Right now our main concern is his health as at the end of the day he is still a 19 year old teenager that has done it very tough in recent years. Our thoughts are with him and his family during these hard times.
Dro apologizes to the promoters and fans that have supported and helped us make this tour happen and hopefully with some time we'll be seeing you all in the near future. Thanks for understanding."
Poor dude. Hope he feels better soon. Sure we'll be seeing more of him in 2012.
Interesting read on Dro and the stigma of depression here.
