Australian discus thrower and photographer Calista Lyon is holding a photographic exhibition to raise funds so she can continue to train for the London 2012 Olympics.
The 24-year-old is ranked second in Australia and tenth in the Commonwealth for discus, and narrowly missed out on the Commonwealth Games selection by 35cm.
She recently had shoulder surgery to repair a 270-degree tear in her labrum, and is now training hard for the Olympics, improving her personal best this year by over five metres to a distance of 58.86m.
Exhibiting in Wodonga where she grew up, Lyon also wanted to bring her exhibition to Melbourne.
"It is really important for me to be able to exhibit where I have spent the last few years of my life," she said.
Lyon has also worked on the stop motion claymation feature film Mary and Max for Academy Award winner Adam Elliot.
The exhibition has a selection of Lyon’s best photographic work, focusing mainly on flora, landscapes, and interiors. All of these will be on sale on the opening night and during gallery opening hours.
Calista Lyon’s Fundraising Photographic Exhibition opens on Friday December 10, from 6-9pm. It’s being held at Off The Kerb Gallery, 66B Johnston St Collingwood. Entry is $10 and $5 for students.
