The Decemberists To Release Special Edition New Album
The Decemberists are bringing out a new album early next year, and are making the release that bit more exciting by also turning it into a Limited Deluxe Box Edition.
It's called The King is Dead, and it comes out on January 14.
Each of the 2500 box sets will be unique, with each one containing a one-of-a-kind original Polariod photo by Autumn de Wilde, with help from The Impossible Project. De Wilde has worked with artists such as Arcade Fire, Beck, Death Cab For Cutie, Fiona Apple and The White Stripes, and she is best known for her portraits of musicians. A 72-page hardcover book featuring over 250 of her photos is also included in The Decemberists' deluxe album.
Along with the album itself and the photos, the foil-stamped covered linen-wrapped clamshell box (phew!) will contain The King is Dead on 180-gram white vinyl with an exclusive cover design, DVD Pendarvia, which is a 30-minute film by Aaron Rose about the making of the album, two instant downloads, and a signed Giclée print of an exclusive illustration by Carson Ellis, artist and wife of lead singer Colin Meloy.
The King is Dead is The Decemberists' sixth album, and marks a deliberate turn towards simplicity after the band's wildly ambitious and widely acclaimed 2009 song-cycle The Hazards of Love.
Produced by Tucker Martine, the album features Americana luminary Gillian Welch on seven tracks, and R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck on three tracks.
The limited deluxe box edition of The King is Dead is available only on www.decemberists.com and you can preorder it now for $US165. The album and the box set will be released on January 14 2011.
