This weekend we welcome new life into the original ‘Her Majesty’s Prison Pentridge’ as the bluestone walls bind live music, local creative vendors and an eclectic mix of Melbourne’s top food trucks. The one that first stole my heart is Pasta Face, whose warm personality assures you’ll be so satisfied you won’t flinch at the sight of your face covered in pasta sauce. Perhaps this is because all their pasta is handcrafted from family secrets with special dedication to their Italian roots. Gourmet Ragu Parmesan, Pan Fried Potato Gnocchi, Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli and Chicken and Mushroom Tortellini are just some of their menu offerings, ensuring comfort, warmth and wholesome energy so you can get up and dance to Billy Davis.
Second who have my heart are Tish Faco which is yes, a play on Fish Tacos owing to their delicious tempura battered fish tacos with salsa fresca, slaw, chipotle mayo and El Cielo tortillas. Although these days, their menu comprises of more than just fish tacos catering to all walks of dietary requirements with a halloumi vege taco (tempura battered asparagus and plum sauce make this delicious) and a vegan oyster mushroom taco too (tempura battered oyster mushrooms and vegan wasabi mayo add all the flavour).
Jim Browns Cypriot Food comes in next. Not only as their menu represents the beauty of simple, good flavours, but also because Melburnians are not widely exposed to the slight difference of Cypriot food compared to Greek. What I love about Cypriot food is their ownership to cooking the world’s best lamb. And by accompanying it with fresh tangs of tzatziki, lemon and herbed salads their food accommodates all needs.
