Composers are invited to submit a two page instrumental tune that fits stylistically with the Orkeztra Glasso Bashalde’s purpose and repertoire. The entries will be judged by a panel of established local musicians whose work reflects the musical genres of Orkeztra Glasso Bashalde.

OGB was set up in 2008 by Pietro Fine to promote diverse music cultures and strengthen community ties by collaborating with local composers and musicians.

Its music director, Gemma Horbury, explains, ‘We’re a community world music orchestra playing tunes from Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Turkey and the Middle East.’Our players range in age from 10 to 77 and come from a range of musical backgrounds and experience. We’re looking for short, catchy tunes in the vein of our repertoire and that are accessible to players of ranging ability.’

The winner of the 2014 Orkeztra Glasso Bashalde Composition Competition will be announced at the Prize Presentation concert on Sunday October 12 as part of the Darebin Music Feast. The prize is $1,000 from Orkeztra Glasso Bashalde; 8 hours recording time with Incubator Studio, 8 hours mixing time with Pughouse Studios, a solid body guitar ($600) from High Street Music and a one year Gold Membership to the Fingers of Fury Arabic and Turkish drumming school.  See musicfeast.com.au for more information.
