Harvest Festival 2012 @ Werribee Park

Harvest Festival may hold the distinction of being the only festival where the journey between the stages is almost as entertaining as the performances on the stages themselves. While Neck of the Woods, Silversun Pickups’ third full-length was released last May, the Los Angeles four-piece garnered another round of publicity a few weeks back. Unfortunately, it was for all the wrong reasons. “It was very simple. We started getting emails from people asking if we were fans of Mitt Romney,” says the Pickups ebullient lead singer Brian Aubert. What Aubert didn’t know is... Read More

With headliners such as Beck, Sigur Rós and Grizzly Bear, it’s no surprise that the Melbourne leg of Harvest Festival has swiftly sold out. But for all of you who missed out, fear not, they’re doubling the Melbourne fun in the festival’s second year. As well as the sold-out Sunday incarnation, the festival will also now take place on the Saturday prior. That’s right, the same top-shelf... Read More

Revolver on Chapel St means different things to different people. Colonel Tan’s Thai menu attracts a trendy, mid-week crowd, keen on curries, retro decor and funky tracks from days gone by. Original Banksys dot the walls, dating back to when only ‘cool people’ knew of the antagonist and his emerging form of graffiti. Shepard Fairey’s iconic Obey images paste the hallways to where The... What a night this was shaping up to be. Two fantastic headline bands on the same bill… rarely does a double header promise so much and deliver at the same time. The Chemist are also quite excellent, but due to the absurdly early start, they were sadly sacrificed for beers. In hindsight, due to the all ages set-up, beers should have been treated with more importance and... Read More

Proving that Melbournians are still among the luckiest music fans in the world, Silversun Pickups staged their sole Australian headlining show this year at The Corner Hotel. A sigh of relief was elicited by fervent Melbourne fans (followed by disappointment for some when tickets sold out within a day – though seeing them as support act for Birds Of Tokyo was consolation for...
