Around a decade managed to pass between Aerosmith’s previous release this century, Honkin’ On Bobo, and their latest studio album Music From Another Dimension! You can safely assume that Aerosmith are still writing and recording music out of sheer love and not just to pay the bills. While the band will rise to the expectation of flicking through their back catalogue, this is no... Read More

Blink-182 @ Sidney Myer Music Bowl

More than anything else, I was scared. First of all, one third of Blink-182 wasn’t even going to show. Travis Barker hasn’t managed to get over his fear of flying after surviving a plane crash in 2008 (who can blame him?) but it was a shame. Sure, he was being replaced by Brooks Wackerman (Bad Religion, Tenacious D) who is a beast in his own right, but Blink-182 without that sweaty, human canvas... Read More

Australia is a massive fan of heartthrob crooner Chris Isaak, and with the announcement of a huge national tour, it appears the feeling is reciprocated. Already announced for the massive 2013 Bluesfest, Isaak will head south for a Melbourne stopover at Sidney Myer Music Bowl.   Joining him on the night will be support act Kasey Chambers. Read More
Weezer @ Sidney Myer Music Bowl

Nostalgia is a funny thing. It’s also an insanely marketable thing. Admittedly, my teenage musical awakening took place well after Weezer’s canonised ‘great’ first two records. I faintly remember the Spike Jonze-directed clip for Island In The Sun on early morning telly. My first gateway into the band was 2008’s Pork And Beans. But I quickly discovered the brilliance of the band’s self-titled... Read More

Having sold more than 100 million records worldwide since forming in 1985, Gun N' Roses are one of the most prolific groups to ever burst out of the LA rock scene, blinding punters with their debut album Appetite For Destruction in 1987.   Axl Rose will be joined by the... One-time electronic music man of mystery, UK producer Theo Keating aka Fake Blood doesn’t just take pride in throwing his audience curveballs – he believes it’s his duty. He achieved this with his recently released Fake Blood debut, the at-times dark and menacing Cells, and is set to do it during his upcoming Summadayze set. “I’ve been really happy with [the response to Cells]. Blondie @ Sidney Myer Music Bowl

When I saw the announcement for this show I was immediately excited. All three bands; Blondie, The Saints and The Stranglers had been a big part of the soundtrack to my growing up. It was only as the show approached that the grim reality dawned on me that the heyday of all three groups was 30 or more years ago. With this in mind I made my way to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl with a mix of... Read More

Kanye West At The Sidney Myer Music Bowl

Despite the constant banter about his cockiness and egotistical nature – two attributes which I believe he is entitled to, Kanye West is a true performer and one of the most intelligent artists of this generation. The fact of the matter is, the man knows what it means to capture and hold a crowds attention.   Having already seen him perform at Big Day Out a couple of days prior, I... Read More
Soundgarden At The Sidney Myer Music Bowl

Openers The Bronx tackled what should have been a very daunting support slot with remarkably relaxed confidence. While the majority of the audience seemed fairly apathetic towards the thrash-punk stalwarts, the band's faithful were still loud and numerous enough to justify a certain amount of swagger on their part. I could certainly respect their energy, as well as the frontman's ironic... Read More

When the Victorian police warned Melbournians that they would be out in force at Parklife this year they were not exaggerating. I watched friends publicly undress as they have their pockets and shoes searched before entering the festival, only to be greeted by the sight of more patrolling police once inside the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.   In an attempt to block out the humiliation of... Dead Folk Dance With Graveyard Train

A whole bunch of kind of surly guys with old instruments moaning songs about wild-west whatevers... we love them. Lagerphones, rattling chains, etc. "Horror-country". Dig it. I saw Graveyard Train at Golden Plains festival this year and they were pretty great. There are a large amount of them and they all sing the same vocal lines and their songs all kind of sound like the song you sing at... Read More

The Famous Spiegeltent seems a perfect venue for Paul Capsis, unorthodox in shape and style, unexpected, a little flamboyant and utterly fabulous. When we speak with Capsis in the Arts Centre forecourt, he's just back from a trip to India - one of few trips he's taken in his lifetime as a holiday rather than a working trip.   Capsis is known as a film and stage actor as well...
