"I helped Jen Cloher sell merchandise – does that count?"
When did you form the band or did it just stumble upon you?
"About two and half years ago I finally decided to pursue music after procrastinating for many, many years. I’ve always loved to sing, but started learning guitar and writing songs and haven’t looked back."
What was the driving force behind the idea?
"An overwhelming need to break away from being in an office and everything that had held me back… and to do what I love to do."
Where has the name come from?
"Yorkshire, I think. I have a penchant for changing my surname, and this one stuck."
Do you think that you have achieved what you set out to do?
"Given I was terrified of singing in front of anyone up until a couple of years ago, I’m happy that I’ve faced my demons. I set out to write and perform songs that I’m proud of, and I do, so yeah!"
If you weren’t playing music you would be?
"Stuck in an office from nine-five, probably surfing the net."
What makes you happiest about what you’re doing?
"Being able to be me, without any rules, and having a good laugh with an audience."
When are you doing your thing next?
"This Friday, February 4 at Vibe on Smith in Fitzroy – Songwriters In The Round. If you haven’t been, it sounds weird, each of us playing our songs in turn, but it’s heaps of fun… and they do an excellent pizza!"
