Lansing, Michigan’s Cheap Girls have announced their breakup after nine years as a band. In an online statement, frontman Ian Graham explained a myriad of personal issues with addiction and misconduct that he is distancing himself from and attempting to move on to other things. The band last released Famous Graves in 2014 and toured Australia in 2013 with The Smith Street Band and as part of the Poison City Weekender festival.

Melbourne’s Diploid and Canberra’s Blight Worms have announced the release of an upcoming split 7”. The 7” is currently streaming and available to order from Lacklustre Records. From the label: “No strangers to playing some of the heaviest music possible, there hasn’t been a pairing this suitable since Muriel and her South African swimming husband (see: Muriel’s Wedding, the 1994 Australian classic).Harsh, fast and abrasive, this release demonstrates just how each band came to be considered as some of the best across Australia.”

Hot Water Music have released footage on members’ individual Facebook pages indicating that they’re in the process of recording a new album. While few details have been released, it’s known that the record will be released on Rise later this year. The band last released Exister in 2012.

Punk rock originators The Damned have announced the rerelease of their seminal 1977 album Damned, Damned, Damned for its 40th anniversary. Featuring a full remastered sonic treatment, the album will also feature liner notes by famed journalist John Ingham. The rerelease will be out on Friday February 17. The band is also reportedly in the studio working on a new record to also be released this year.

Vancouver duo Japandroids have released a stream of their upcoming album Near to the Wild Heart of Life, their first since 2012’s breakthrough Celebration Rock. The band recently played a sold out show at The Tote which I heard was great.

Los Angeles pop punk quartet Bad Cop/Bad Cop have announced they’re in the studio recording the follow up to their 2015 debut album Not Sorry. I wasn’t huge on that album, but I loved the EP they put out before that. Super tight and catchy all-girl power pop punk. Top stuff.

Toronto hardcore punk legends Career Suicide have released two preview tracks from their upcoming album. Entitled The Machine Response, it’ll be the band’s first full length album since 2007’s Attempted Suicide. The album will be released Friday February 24 on Deranged Records.

Metallic hardcore legends Converge have announced the release of an upcoming live album. Entitled Jane Live, the album is a recording of the band’s performance of their 2001 album Jane Doe in full at at Roadburn Festival in the Netherlands last year. It’ll be released Friday March 3 on Epitaph.
