The Dead Leaves : Cities On The Sea

Though originally a vehicle for songsmith Matt Joe Gow, Cities On The Sea marks the debut of The Dead Leaves as a fully fledged band; eschewing their former blue-collar roots rock for a darker, atmospheric furrow - the kind they do so well in Brooklyn. In fact their similarity to some of New York’s finest is difficult to ignore. Cover rides brooding angles and choppy guitars in a... Read More

The National Live At The Palais

The National aren't a particularly good live band, unfortunately. The delicate, contrary layers of rhythm and melody that shape their songs seem to fall apart on stage, each sound hovering near the others but hanging resolutely alone in the space, creating a flat confusion of instruments. There's no chemistry there, as though the seven men on stage were vague acquaintances - great individual... Read More

Early this year, Interpol parted ways with founding member Carlos Dengler – the bassist who had been with the band since their humble New York City beginnings, and who had stayed with them up until (and through) the recording of Interpol’s fourth, self-titled album, but left at a short time after to pursue other musical interests. Although his spilt with the band was, they... Read More
