Musical Influences with Unspoken Rule

Jen Salisbury – Vocalist

Doris Day. My top musical influences come from the movies of the ‘40s and ‘50s, specifically glamour music icons like Doris Day, Fred Astaire, Louis Armstrong etc.

Frank Sinatra. I’ve always had a strong connection with musicals due to the beauty and emotion that is portrayed in song.

Louis Prima. He is all about dancing, improvising and smiling. This is something I try to incorporate into my music, to keep it fun and engaging.

James Mustafa – Trumpet/Arrangements

Maria Schneider. An American big band composer, and one of my main musical idols for almost ten years. Her music has a magical way of weaving sophisticated intricacies through heartbreaking melodies and powerful orchestrations – a true genius of modern composition.

Gustav Holst and Gustav Mahler. Classical romantic era giants whose ability to orchestrate and compose is equal to none. Over the past many years, I have transitioned through many musical phases as I’ve matured and learnt more from the players and teachers around me.

Paul Grabowsky and Julien Wilson. Closer to home, I have been a huge fan of the writings and playing of these musicians for most of my professional career. Ultimately, a handful of artists and composers have still stood the test of time and continue to inspire and influence most of writing.
