Melbourne Symphony Orchestra are performing ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ for one night only

2001: A Space Odyssey

It’s gonna be out of this world.

Epic sci-fi flick 2001: A Space Odyssey is getting the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra treatment come January next year.

Released in the late ’60s, Space Odyssey is an absolute masterpiece and has been recognised by the US Library of Congress and the National Film Registry. The classic film will be celebrated with full orchestral backing and a performance by the MSO Chorus.

The Stanley Kubrick film is well-known for its classical concert soundtrack, featuring memorable compositions like Richard Strauss’ ‘Also sprach Zarathustra’ and Johann Strauss’ ‘On the Beautiful Blue Danube’. If you haven’t seen the movie, no doubt you’ve seen at least one of its many parodies.

A Live Presentation of 2001: A Space Odyssey will be performed Saturday January 25 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Tickets go on sale Friday October 11 via the MSO website.
